FAQ

I work via telehealth. My clients have zero commute and get to attend therapy on their own comfy couch, wearing pajama pants!

Maybe.

I am in Colorado. However, I can and do see clients worldwide.

I did for many years. I no longer do because most of the insurance companies I’ve worked with behave a little like the Mafia. I am happy to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider.

Yeah. At its core, it’s a white, Western, patriarchal construct. I try like hell not to practice that way. You’ll have to be the judge of that.

Usually, people don’t reach out to me unless they are in quite a bit of distress! If that’s the case, meeting weekly for a while – at least a few months – is best for momentum. If that’s not possible, or if you’re already involved in other healing work, every other week can work.

Some clients like to graduate to monthly sessions once they feel stable and most significant aspects of their process feel complete.

Of course, this varies. However, you should feel, within the first handful of sessions, that you are on a promising track. If you apply what we are doing in session outside of session, your progress will be way more rapid. Weekly clients who do this often start to experience changes within a month or two.

Most of my clients begin our work with supplements and nutrition for mental health, and when they do, they often see changes in a day or two.

Great question! To me, it’s not about things being perfect. That’s not real life. It’s about feeling that, based on what you’ve learned and how you’ve grown, you can handle a typical challenge on a typical day – maybe even a gnarlier challenge. You feel empowered, and you understand how to navigate your emotional experience.

I use Somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems/Parts Work, Focusing, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and Mindfulness. Sometimes we talk, too!

Yes, but I try not to call it that! I consider myself 50% therapist, 50% teacher. I frequently invite clients to practice what we are learning in session outside of session so that we can then troubleshoot areas of confusion.

Ultimately, this enables my clients to learn how to do this work on their own, so that they don’t need me forever. I know, I know, I’m a blast, but you probably don’t want to spend the rest of your life in session with me.

Definitely dogs. Did you know that cats carry a parasite called toxoplasmosis that can make mice lose their fear of cats and, in humans, cause cat cravings? I think that might be what’s behind cat hoarding situations.

Beach.

I wanted to be a “psychiatrist-actress-animal rights lawyer-writer-eco terrorist.” I am still trying to manifest that career.
