Therapy for Engineers and Cybersecurity Professionals: Dealing with Anxiety and Relationship Difficulties

Engineers & cybersecurity face challenges.

If they could wave a magic wand and change everything, engineers and cybersecurity professionals would probably change the world.

Members of both occupations are susceptible to injustice, which creates difficulties with family and friends, and makes maintaining positive relationships challenging.

In terms of their lives specifically, they’d like to feel more stable, relaxed, and connected to others. Unfortunately, they currently feel isolated; while they know this is, to some degree, par for the course given who they are, they want a few more supportive connections with other introverts.

What they are wise to do is stop overthinking everything.

Reasoning alone doesn’t solve the problem.

Because they are such cerebral, rational people, they have already tried reasoning their way out of their problems.

They may have tried challenging their thoughts, listening to podcasts and reading books for expert advice, and approaching their struggles from a more formulaic perspective (i.e., “If I feel anxious, I should try box breathing”).

What I offer is a skill set unlike any they have encountered. I can help them identify their “emotional operating system” and learn to navigate it using information they receive directly from their body rather than their mind.

The approach I use is simply a different piece of software they haven’t yet encountered. It’s straightforward and works!

Therapy helps remove the roadblocks.

They are already really good at being the architects of their own lives. In areas where they are unable to do so, unprocessed emotions have become a roadblock.

Once they learn how to address this effectively, they will have much more control over the direction of their lives. For example, instead of perseverating all day about an uncomfortable interaction, they can turn toward their anxiety, offer it comfort and validation, hear what it needs, and achieve a more balanced state in doing so.

Then, they can free up time and mental energy to devote to their preferred activities, rather than having a shadow hanging over their day. They will also have much more understanding as to how to navigate relationships as they become more intimate.

Additionally, they may gain insight into why past attempts to solve the problem may have failed, and they’ll learn which specific actions and behaviors can foster closeness in their new connections.
